Herpes Zoster, or shingles, is a strain of virus related to chicken pox that usually occurs in adulthood. In a recent study, it was found that acupuncture treatment for those with shingles had comparable efficacy to standard pharmacological treatment.
In the study, acupuncture was able to reduce the visual rash associated with shingles and reduce pain and discomfort associated with the condition. Acupuncture treatment also helped to reduce the chance of post-herpetic neuralgia after the herpes infection.
This research shows that acupuncture has measured and proven effects, even comparable to pharmaceutical preparations in the treatment of Herpes Zoster.
