Our Brisbane hypnotherapist therapist Gary Cosier uses a number of techniques depending on what kind of therapy session the client needs. Gary provides a safe space for clients where we can access the unconscious mind to alleviate anxiety, work through relationship challenges, break through limiting beliefs and work on their own personal growth.

Gary works to help you get into a hypnotic trance using guided visualisation and deep relaxation techniques. He can then utilise modalities like time line coding, emotional release, parts therapy and other techniques during your therapy sessions.

Our hypnotherapy treatment process

The first thing that Gary will do is discuss your issue, your life circumstances and take some personal history. Gary has used hypnosis for a wide range of conditions and it is likely he has previously worked with what you need help with. He then will take you through your first hypnosis session.

It is important to note that all hypnosis is a practice for you to learn how to get into hypnosis and that everyone can do it. It is nothing like the movies - you'll be conscious and able to participate or even leave (if you wanted) throughout the session.

What to expect from your first hypnotherapy session at our Brisbane clinic

An initial hypnotherapy appointment is $220 and is approximately 90 minutes long. Return hypnosis appointments are $205 and are one hour long. Our well-known Quit Smoking Program is $695 for the hypnosis session.

Even one session will help helpful, but most of our clients average 3-4 sessions with Gary.

We recommend you arrive a few minutes early to have a cup of tea and settle into our calming space. if you’re doing an online hypnotherapy session then find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed.

When you arrive at Shift Brisbane you will start your appointment with our hypnotist learning more about you and what you’d like to work on using hypnotherapy. During the initial 90-minute session, we spend a lot of time guiding you into a relaxed state. We want to create an environment where you feel safe and secure and able to share your issues. We have an amazing team who will make sure you are comfortable during and after your session.

We all want to know where we’re headed so Gary will lay out a suggested treatment schedule so you know what to expect and where you’re headed next.

Hypnotherapy FAQs.

When you think of hypnosis, you may imagine what you’ve seen on TV during stage hypnosis or in a movie. Clinical hypnosis is very different and it can’t make you do anything that you don’t want to do. When you’re in hypnosis, it is called being in a trance state.

Trance is like being in deep meditation. Your body will be relaxed and you’ll usually feel incredibly calm and relaxed. This in itself is an enormous relief from the symptoms of anxiety.

In this relaxed state you can now access your subconscious mind, those deeper parts of yourself that are sometimes not immediately apparent.

Over 90% of your mind is subconscious and this is where our most deep-seated beliefs and values are stored. By accessing this part of ourselves, we can make significant changes and help to release emotions and past traumas so that you can heal and overcome your anxiety symptoms.

It is in the safety of the relaxed state of hypnosis that you can more easily process the triggers of your health concern. 

This means you can begin to build a bridge between the fearful experience and the present so you can teach your mind and body to trust that it is now safe and you can choose how you would like to respond in any given circumstance.

Our popular Quit Smoking Hypnotherapy Program is $695. We also have an 8 Week Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Program with nutritional support which is just $150 per week.

As this is an individual process your therapist will be able to give you a rough idea of the amount of sessions you will need and how often after your first hypnotherapy appointment. Most clients will begin to notice some level of change after their first appointment, but will usually require at least 4 appointments to really shift the issue.

An exception to this can be quit smoking or stopping other habits and addictions, which we commonly see resolved in 1-2 sessions.

Unfortunately, at this stage, hypnotherapy is not covered by Medicare. But as things change in this space, we will keep our patients updated.

No. Even if they wanted to (which would never be a consideration as our therapists ALWAYS have your best interests at heart) a hypnotherapist can only offer suggestions for change that you are open to and are willing to do.

Because of this, you need to actually be willing to make change, or the hypnosis will not be effective for you. If there are reasons that may be stopping you from being ready, these will be addressed in your session first.

When you are in trance, you are deeply relaxed but also conscious of what is happening 100%. If you wanted to get up and walk out at any moment you could (although you won’t because you’ll feel so relaxed).

Hypnotherapy can work for issues including a gambling addiction. You as a person must be willing and want to make a change in your life for hypnotherapy to be an effective treatment.
